The Azores archipelago presents a great diversity of cetacean species, with seasonal frequency fluctuations. Due to the absence of continental platform it is possible to see pelagic species, that don't approach as much to the shore in other coastal areas. This great variety of species, allied to a relative easiness of observing the animals, at least during the summer months, makes the Azores a privileged area for the research of this marine mammal group. Research Projects :
In addition to the scientific work, we also try to contribute for the spread of the acquired knowledge to the non-specialized public, through the INTERNET and articles of scientific divulgation, in collaboration with the press and other media. For additional information on research, conservation and general knowledge on cetaceans and other marine mammals worldwide, see our links. |
