Valonia utricularis (Roth) C. Agardh
The cells of this species have a distinct
club-like appearance and may grow to as much as two inches in length. It tends
to grow in a creep-like fashion along the substrate with occasional offshoots
becoming erect up to two inches tall. Smaller than V. macrophysa and
not forming massive mats, it consists of bubblelike, branched filaments composed
of relatively large, cylindrical cells up to two inches long but only 0.2 inch
wide. Mainly found attached to hard substrate in cracks, crevices or other protected
areas (from predators).
