Rhodymenia holmesii
Description:
A diminutive red algae, flattened, V-shaped, somewhat cartilaginous, brown-red
fronds, to 5 mm broad and to 100 mm high, with short stipes arising from a rhizoidal
base. Fronds repeatedly dichotomously branched, axils narrow, apices elongate
sometimes forming tendril-like extensions, margins smooth.
Habitat:
On rocks and in shady pools, lower intertidal and subtidal (to 8? m), south
and west coasts of Britain and Ireland, common in Normandy, locally abundant
in areas affected by sand or silt; occasionally on maërl in shallow subtidal.
Frequently found in shaded crevices and niches.
