Abstract: The main goal of this project was to determine the absolute abundance of several demersal species using bottom longline, and to study the distribution and dynamics of the same species over the period of time of the experience. This project took place in a small seamount south of Terceira (São Jorge de Fora) between 300 and 500 m depth. Fifteen fishing experiments were made and the results of these were afterwards used in models to evaluate the capturability of red (blackspot) seabream, silver scarbbardfish, bluemouth rockfish, and alfonsino. The absolute abundance and movement of these species (in and out of the seamount), were calculated through a model that incorporated the recruitment parameters.
